Hello,

I have a .tiff DEM file and would like to upload it to ArcGIS to use as a basemap after hillshading it, would this be possible? I read in a previous post that you can create a tile layer to accomplish this ( https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/manage-data/publish-tiles.htm ), however, I only have a license for ArcGIS online so I can not use ArcGIS or ArcPro/ArcMap to create the tiles.

Thanks for the help.

You can create a tile or raster layer in QGIS, (Free open sourced GIS software) then upload it to your device, then create new item on AGOL by pulling from a zipped file on your computer. This is a workflow that has been pretty common in the past and may work for you. There is a minor learning curve in QGIS but since it's open sourced there nearly as much documentation as ESRI software. That is at least one option I know of. Curious to hear about others that I am not aware of, but in any case hope this helps.

Best regards,

JL
