I uploaded a package file that contained data from a fiel geodatabase. I made it public and available for everyone. When I try to add it to a map, I leave the search string blank and it does not find it, I tried searching by the tags I used and still nothing. Anyone had any luck adding layers fromt he my content portion of arcgis.com?

Just an FYI

The "My Contents" Feature for ArcGIS.com still does not work.

At the following site search "Creating Maps".

http://www.arcgis.com/help/help.htm

Under Adding layers it states "NOTE: Only ArcGIS Server map, image, and feature services can be added to the map. Other layer types, such as layer packages, are not supported at this time."

I hope they get this feature fixed soon.

Still not working as of 29Oct10?!  Seriously?  This was supposed to be a selling point...  (For shame.  Are you getting this ESRI?)

I am experiencing this problem as well.

I have a public map service:

http://maps.gov.bc.ca/arcserver/rest/services/eteam/eteam/MapServer/9

I just get a message that says "Loading..." for over 30 mins

See attached.

I am assuming any map service you add has to be in the same projection as the base (eg: Bing = Mercator)

Thanks for your help.

Susan,

Looks like you've encountered a bug, as the loading message should not be displaying when the URL is incorrect. The URL to your server you need to enter is this:

http://maps.gov.bc.ca/arcserver/rest/services

Then you should see the list of your services. You can add the eteam service as a whole. You can't add individual layers inside a service separately, however.

Thanks,

Mike

Still no word as to this feature in ArcGIS.com (11/29/2010)

Unable to load data into the base map from the "My Contents" folder which contains layer packages.

Was this not one of the key selling points of the ArcGIS.com (ArcGIS Online) service when ESRI presented this at the 2010 User conference?

http://proceedings.esri.com/dvd/uc/2010/uc-index/uc/workshops/tw_669.pdf

I went back through the above PDF but it is not clear.

I looked through my notes from Bernie Szukalski's talk and I circled and highlighted about this specific feature as a great solution for those users who can not afford the huge cost of setting up an ArcGIS Server.

I hope ESRI follows up and lets us know the status of this feature ever working?

Precisely! ESRI told us many times that ArcGIS Online was a great solution for those users who can not afford the huge cost of setting up an ArcGIS Server. It's just so annoying that it doesn't work without the ArcGIS Server! ESRI: please come on: when will it work as promised?

Jin Lee,

What version of ArcGIS Server are you running? I suspect ArcGIS Server .NET v 9.3.1 with IIS.

I believe you've encountered a bug. The problem is you have a folder name that begins with a number. This causes the server to return some invalid information, and thus, arcgis.com can't connect to your server. You can either upgrade your server to the latest version, or simply try renaming your folder named 2005 so that it begins with a letter.

Thanks,

Mike
