I have a home license for ArcGIS Desktop, and I am trying to publish feature services to ArcGIS Online so that I can use an application on my phone to collect and edit GIS data in the field. I have clear instructions on how to publish feature services, but I am getting stuck. I log into my ArcGIS Online account using the "File > Sign In" command. Then I go to "File > Share As > Service" and then choose "Publish a Service." On the next window I expect "My Hosted Services" to appear in the dropdown menu, but that option is not there. So, although I have logged into my ArcGIS Online account, there does not appear to be a server connection. Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening? I very much appreciate the assistance!
Hi Bradley,
You most likely have a personal ArcGIS Online account. In order to publish data to ArcGIS Online, you need an Organizational account. You can get a free 60-day trial:
Hello Jake,
Thank you so much for your helpful reply! I suspected that the answer might be related to the fact that I only have a home use license. I can certainly try the 60-day trial for an ArcGIS Online organizational account. In the long term, however, because I just use ArcGIS for personal home use, I won't be able to afford the cost of an ArcGIS Online organizational account. Would you (or anyone else reading this post) have any suggestions for a field data collection solution that would be more affordable for a home user like me? I would be happy to find a solution that involves transferring data directly between my computer and my phone, or a solution that involves data transfer via an online service.
Thanks again!
According to this link, you should receive an ArcGIS Online named account along with 100 service credits with ArcGIS for Personal Use. You may just have to call to get your ArcGIS Online Organization activated. I would recommend calling Customer Service at 888-377-4575, and they should be able to assist you with this.
