GUID field in local copy has all zeros

I created a new point feature class in ArcGIS desktop, published it as a service, added it to a new map and added a point feature.  One of the attributes is a GUID field.  When I add the layer into an arcmap drawing from "My Hosted Services", the attributes are correct with an actual GUID value.  When I create a local copy for editing, all of the attributes are fine except the GUID field which has all zeros (with curly brackets).  Has anyone else observed this behavior or have any suggestions for correcting it.

This is a bug that has been addressed for ArcGIS 10.2.

Thanks,

Not being able to work with GUID fields on a local computer seems like a fairly major problem.  Is there some workaround or patch until 10.2 comes out?
