Finding individuals not in your organizationand inviting them to a group

I am trying to find an individual who has an account in another organization and invite him to be a part of a group I created.  How do I do this?  I am an administrator within the organization.

In the particular group page, click on Invite Users.

Search by entering the ArcGIS Online UserName of the invitee.

Also, ensure the user you are trying to invite has the privilege to join groups and has a public profile so you can find them.

Thanks for the help.  However, now that I have found him, when I try to invite him I get an error message stating "An error occurred. Please try again later."  Could this mean he does not have the ability to join groups?  Or could this be an issue with how my group is setup?

Hey George,

That sounds like a possibility and the user would need to contact their account administrator to verify. If that is the case, that error message needs to be more clear that that is the issue. I'd suggest contacting support to verify what the issue is and get a bug logged for the error message if that is the case.

The source of the error message "An error occurred. Please try again later." may be that the person that you are trying to send an invitation to does not have the same account type (i.e. public or organization). If you have an organizational account, the people you send invites must also have an organization account.  Those you invite to join a group must have the same type of account you have—organizational or public.   

Individuals can verify that they are part of an organization by looking for the word "Organization" at the top of the page after logging in to their ArcGIS Online account (https://www.arcgis.com/home/signin.html ).  See image below.

I experienced the same error message recently while trying to invite individuals from another organization. ESRI's technical assistance provided the above insight to address the error "An error occurred. Please try again later."
