I am unable to save my online maps which is created through ArcGIS Online service. I tried to click on the save menu. For the first and second times, there was no response. It popped up a window on the third click. After I entered necessary info and clicked the save button, it was showing "Saving map to my content", but it was stuck there and no response any more.

I did successfully save my maps about one week ago in the say way. But don't know why it is not working now. I guess there might be some problems with your servers?

I just want to save the map, not make a copy which is what save as does.....but that is not working either.  The dialog box comes up but when hitting save it just freezes. If you hit save nothing at all happens.  I don't want to post a link to the maps in the forum.  I will PM you.

Thanks for sharing your web maps. I can reproduce the problem in that I can't do a save as either. We'll have to investigate this.

We have tracked down the issue. We will address this in a patch for this week. So by Friday, it should just work.

Thanks for providing your web maps to help in tracking this down.

Hey Mike,

It works now.  Thanks for quickly addressing the issue.

Hi,

It seems that "Save As" is still not working for me. I have tried to create a new map by uploading some simply layer files and when I hit save, it did work. But the same problem occurred when I uploaded a complex layer including about 500 irregular polygons. I checked my layer files in ArcMap and there was nothing wrong with it. I am pretty sure that this layer file has been saved successfully in my previous web maps.

Thanks,
Xander

Xander,

How big is your web map? You can look at the item details page. It may be too large. As it gets larger than 5MB, it means you have too much data. What browser are you using?  We tell people that web maps can handle up to 1000 features. However, features are not the true limit, but rather the graphic points that make up the features. So, for example, if you have a polygon layer where the polygons have lots of vertices, you will reach the limits of a browser much more quickly. I suspect this may be the problem.

If you can share the URL to your web map, we can look. Or share the shapefile you loaded into it. Further, open the shapefile in ArcMap and see how many vertices there are. If you can generalize the data, that will help.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Here is the web map I was trying to do "Save As":
http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=774cd11e03f24f4fa1a780c0416d3a53

The polygon layer I was talking about is "Census subdivision", which is already included in this saved web map. The zip file for this layer is only about 600 KB, the browser is Google Chrome. There are 48,244 vertices in this layer.

Xander,

I can't save your map either.

It turns out there are polygons (below) in your feature layer that have no vertices. How was this data created? Do you have the original data we can test with? We will now check for this case when saving the map, but the underlying problem is that the data shouldn't be this way.

I have the same issue - even without adding any new file.
In my case, I am reusing a lab exercise that worked this past fall but now does not anymore.
Specifically, I search for and find jjerski's "Plates 4 Types" map. As of this year, I cannot Save-as this map (regardless of browser). Indidentally, when I click the More Details... button, nothing happens either.
This is not a very good/impressive start into my class' first lab exercise.
Cheers,
     Jochen

I cannot save or save as my web map. The buttons are unavailable. I have several layers types in my map including: kml, cvs, wms, GeoRss. When I initially added the data to the map, I had no problems. Now when I open the map to edit it, the save and save as buttons are gone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul
