Any way to prevent duplicate domains when publishing from Pro to Online?

I have a layer in Pro that has five fields that are all configured to use the same coded domain.  When I publish this layer to Online, it publishes with unique coded domains for each of the five fields.  So if I want to edit a value or add a new one, I have to add it to all five coded domains in Online.

Is there any way around this?  It doesn't seem right that the published layer in Online has five unique domains when they're all configured to use the exact same one in Pro.

Workarounds/solutions to this problem would be very welcome.  Likewise I'd be interested to know if anyone else thinks this is a bug.

Given this post has had hundreds of views, but nobody has suggested a workaround I'm assuming there isn't any way around this behaviour at present.  So I've submitted this as an 'Idea' as I don't think this behaviour is what you would expect as a user: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-online-ideas/when-publishing-from-pro-don-t-duplicate-domains/i...

Feel free to give it some kudos if you agree with it.
