As a public sector organization we are subject to legislation and regulations that require us to maintain metadata web catalogues that contain metadata compliant to a specific standard. When adding items to ArcGIS Online it would be preferable to simply supply the URL to the existing metadata record, rather than having to convert to 'ArcGIS format' of whatever standard then import into ArcGIS online. With things as they are it requires us to manage metadata in two places, adding to our workload.
