How about adding the means to search portal/agol items and the data they reference based on a spatial extent? Either by entering the coordinates for a box or via a map interface where a user can draw a box or polygon and portal items that either cross or are fully within are listed. This would be be particularly useful for when you have many feature classes and images that overlap the same area of interest.
Seems basic. Surprised it is not currently provided.
