Allow user to activate/deactivate filters in the filter web app template

I have developed a filter web app using the filter template available from arcgis.com.  The filters work great, however, I have a rather large dataset, with 96 attributes.  I have setup 18 filters for this data, and I would like to be able to turn off certain filters when I want to, and turn them back on when I want to (maybe through a checkbox), so that I can see my data in various scenarios in the app.  Right now every single filter has to evaluate to true in order to see any data.  You can use the "Add a Set" tool, but that shows you any data matching the filters, and that is not what I want either. So my idea is to enhance the filters web app template on arcgis.com by allowing the user to turn filter on/off at their descretion.
