Group layers are a powerful means to group your data by theme. It also allows you to bring some structure / hierarchy into you data.

However, after creating a web map in the map viewer and saving it, all group layers are collapsed by default. This is annoying, especially when you have groups at different levels. An end user should expand the groups at each level, not only in the table of contents of the map viewer itself, but also in the layer list widget of Experience Builder, ArcGIS Dashboards , ...

It could be very useful to be able to save for each group layer separately whether it should be expanded or collapsed when opening the web map.

Agreed. Our team sees this issue especially when taking advantage of the "exclusive visibility" setting on group layers. We wouldn't group the layers at all except to turn on exclusive visibility, but when we group the layers, they load into Experience Builder collapsed.

Our workaround has been to name the group layer "click the triangle to expand the layers" rather than a name that relates to the layers' content.

The idea of giving users control of the expand / collapse setting would work. In our case, enabling "exclusive visibility" on a layer list widget in experience builder would also work because then we would not need to group layers.
