Replacing feature layers in Sweet for ArcGIS app

Is it possible to replace (a) feature layer(s) used to collect data in a Sweet for ArcGIS application, without breaking all of the data rules connected to that layer? I have an application set up with various field visibility and calculation rules set up for certain feature layers, but want to update other fields in that layer and the domains it uses. Ideally I would be able to create a duplicate of the layer, save it locally in a file geodatabase, make the changes I need (ideally I would be able to do this using arcpy, which works for what I want with layers in a fgdb but not hosted feature layers), then upload the updated feature layer back to the Enterprise portal (where the Sweet app is), then point the Sweet app to the updated hosted feature layer.

This part of the Sweet documentation makes me think that this won't work, as the schema will no longer match - I'm hoping that it won't break the rules set up for fields which aren't changed, but fear this may not be the case.
