On December 8, from 5:00 p.m. to midnight (PST), we plan to update ArcGIS Online. Please note that all planned updates are subject to change. Our What’s New email, blog article, and documentation will provide a comprehensive list of enhancements.

Map Viewer

Map Viewer will be introducing a new experience for editing source HTML in popups, the ability to add GeoJSON from URLs with both Smart Mapping and filtering support, a new feature effects capability to emphasize or de-emphasize specific features, and support for complex line, point, and polygon symbols. Additionally, you will now be able to apply Smart Mapping and filtering to your WFS and OGC feature layers. Map Viewer will streamline editing with fewer clicks and support for authoring and editing forms.

Create Layer Experiences

With the new create layer experiences, you will be able to create new layers in your My Content dashboard. The streamlined creation experience allows you to create multiple layer types and add fields. The new hosted feature layer authoring experience will allow you to draw directly on the hosted feature layer.

More ways to work with imagery

ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online expands its export options. You can export imagery as tile packages for offline use and a GeoTIFF for easier download. Additionally, Tiled Imagery Layers now support WMTS giving you greater interoperability.

New ArcGIS Instant Apps

Control the display of numeric values as well as time in the Slider app, display two charts side by side by default with adjustable chart sizes in the Chart Viewer app and create a focused list of countdowns within your map in the Countdown app.

Additionally, you will be able to export the search result with your map to a PDF file using the Zone Lookup and Nearby apps. Attachment Viewer will make feature-by-feature browsing in the gallery more intuitive by focusing on those with attachments only.

The ArcGIS Online system health dashboard today says maintenance on 12/8 after 5pm, but this blog says 12/7 after 5pm.. which day is it, or both?  Thanks..

Hi Will, the ArcGIS Online update has been moved to December 8th.

It looks like there have been some updates to the way in which view layers are created. Is this part of the December update and documented somewhere?

@DataOfficer  - Looks like it is part of the Dec update....

https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-online/announcements/whats-new-arcgis-online-decemb...

The workflow for creating hosted feature layer views has been improved, with the view definition now set as part of the view creation process. You can create a filtered view of your layer using attributes, by drawing a shape, or by using a shape from another layer. Specific fields can be chosen for the view and sharing and editing permissions.

You can still alter the view definition later from the hosted feature layer view’s details page, but now your hosted feature layer view contains the right content as soon as you create it.

Ah thank you @DanMcCoy1 I read this blog post as being the December update information rather than what's coming.

The update information says that the December AGOL update will have "support for complex line, point, and polygon symbols." I noticed there are a few more linetypes, however no additional arrow types or configurations (arrow in the middle for flow direction). Is that the extent of the additional support?

Thank You

@JimMitchell1 Current support is for web maps published from ArcGIS Pro 2.9 with these complex symbols and some simple symbol updating in Map Viewer. Early next year we are working on supporting web styles for lines and polygons (currently have point support) which will expand the default galleries for these geometries to include symbols with markers, hatches, multiple symbol layers along with the ability to change the styling on these individual symbol layers in Map Viewer.
