I am wondering if there is support (official or non-official) for WebGL in Unity? If so, to what extent and if not, is this planned for the roadmap?

Not supported and not planned. If you want to create applications to run in a web browser you need to look into pixel streaming options.https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.renderstreaming@2.0/manual/index.html
