Enable Time Series?

Any thoughts on why time series would not be enabled on data with date/time columns?  I can interact with the date/time values with other chart types but time series.  I can see it as an option but I am unable to choose it.

UPDATE:  We were having issues with our Datastore and once we were able to establish a working Datastore this issue was resolved.

is it a dataset or portal issue?  For conventional data, enabling time is required before you can use it

The dataset is being pulled into Insights from a relational database, not a hosted feature layer in the portal.
