I work with SharePoint 2013 on-premise. My company only allows 3rd party application additions that fall under the app model. Full trust is not an option which means the server-side installation of ESRI Maps will not work. My admin pointed out to me that ESRI does offer the a SharePoint Online install that can be downloaded and installed into the app store for those with cloud-hosted SharePoint environments. He indicated that this in itself is proof that an app model version exists contrary to what is being communicated and that an ESRI Maps web part install should not require that code be integrated on the SharePoint server. He indicated that if ESRI is capable of enabling functionality within the SharePoint Online product then there is no reason why the app cannot be used on-premise other than ESRI chooses not to make it available. Based on this I am inclined to believe this statement and would like for ESRI to address this.
