Hi Community,

While developing dashboards using Power BI and ArcGIS Maps for Power BI, we’ve noticed that end users need access to the Enterprise Portal server to view the embedded maps. I recall this issue coming up before and wanted to check if others have encountered similar challenges, and what approaches or solutions were taken to manage access.

It would be great to share any lessons learned or best practices so we can all benefit as a community.

Thanks,
Ori

Hey @OriGudes230175

It is infact a requirement to have ArcGIS Portal, or ArcGIS Online access in order to run the Power BI maps. This is required since these maps are typically hosted feature layers or similar, which utilize the Portal/Online to host these maps and symbolize them. Portal is also used for authentication in the same way Field Maps authenticates, it needs an endpoint to securely pass information between.

In this case, if you are needing PowerBI, I would suggest that a Portal service would need created and registered with your Server to utilize what you are wanting.

Do you already have a portal, or are you currently utilizing the ArcGIS Server exclusively?

If there are users you are wanting to add, they will need to have a license assigned with valid permissions to view the Power BI endpoint, those licenses are found here: https://doc.arcgis.com/en/power-bi/latest/get-started/accounts.htm
