Hi all,
I’m working on a workflow where KPI data is visualised in ArcGIS Maps for Power BI.
However, one key limitation I’ve encountered is with the Join functionality. Currently, ArcGIS Maps for Power BI does not allow symbology to be driven from additional joined fields coming from the joined tabular data. In our case, this affects the OTR% field. At the moment, the only way we can achieve the desired symbology is by using a hosted feature class with the OTR% field pre-defined symbology in advance. This leaves us with a manual update process, which reduces efficiency, as doing it once is fine but if we have constant updates (based on FME pushing new data to the hosted feature class in the Enterprise Portal)
Question:
Is there a way to enable symbology in ArcGIS Maps for Power BI based on joined fields, or is this a known limitation with no current workaround? If not, is this capability on the roadmap for future updates?
Thanks in advance!
I was able to symbolize based on a joined field by following the steps toward the bottom of this blog article. Will this work for you?
Thanks @GBacon
Which section you are referring to? Appended join layer fields: Styling the joined result layer and labels?
How this is different, I am not sure I am clearly undersetting this?

Yes, that is the section I was referring to in answer to your question "Is there a way to enable symbology in ArcGIS Maps for Power BI based on joined fields..."
Maybe your situation is different than this scenario or your field just isn't showing up the Fields to append dropdown? If that is the case, your field needs to be added to the Join Layer field well to become available to the Fields to append list.
The map does not update both symbology and labels when I apply any filter on the page..
Thanks @GBacon
I think the main challenge is that adding join attribute to be used for symbology color-coded map is a manual process, but what happens when data needs to be updated every month?
