A variety of rainbow colour gradients should be available and a colour bar should appear on the maps. This would enable to see a variety of data ranges. I can't believe how primitive your maps are.
Also in the heat maps - need to know more about the gridding algorithm being applied - looks very smoothed.
Should be able to clip grids also
