ArcGIS for Power BI is updated regularly to provide new features, improved speed and usability, and bug fixes. The 2022.1 update is a quality release. Performance improvements and bug fixes have been made for the following features.

This release will start deploying on February 9th, 2022. It may take up to 48 hours to push out to all regions (up to two weeks for government-level sites).

If you do not see the changes, you may need to close out and restart Power BI Desktop or restart your browser if you are using Power BI Online.

As always, please let us know of any improvements or issues you want to chat about!

Symbology and filtering

Symbology reverting to default colors after filtering has been resolved. Previously, when a map visual was styled using a numeric value or a string value, using a filter would cause the map to revert to its default colors. This was true even when using custom symbols or custom colors on the map. Take a look at the animation below to see the changes!

Power BI Desktop infrastructure update

In Power BI Desktop, a preview feature was enabled that caused ArcGIS for Power BI to experience some issues when adding data to the location field well, signing in, and other various anomalies. This issue has now been resolved and the Power BI Desktop infrastructure update can be left on.

EsriJSON hidden from tooltips

When adding EsriJSON (shape, geometry) to the location field well, there were some unexpected results appearing in a feature's tooltip. Now, when adding this type of data to the location field well, it will be hidden by default. If the data is added to the tooltips field well, then it will be displayed in the tooltip. Take a look at the before and after in this release.

Generalization levels updated

When adding boundaries to the map, such as zip codes or census tracts, the shapes on the map were not exact and appeared more as blobs than exact lines drawn on the map. Take a look at the difference between the current version, and the new version.

Basemap gallery update

In v2022.1, we made a UI change to the Basemap gallery widget. This is part of an overall design change that will be slowly rolling out throughout the first half of the year. Be on the lookout for additional changes taking place within ArcGIS for Power BI as we move toward unifying our look and feel alongside ArcGIS for Office and ArcGIS for SharePoint.

I  recently updated my power bi for report server to January 2022 version

will February 2022 rollout will include PowerBI for report server?

How do I know which version of Arcgis Maps for power BI  I have in my Power BI version?

@GustavoDrets If you hover over the Esri logo in the lower right corner it should show you 2022.1.98

The visual goes live today, and does take some time to roll out through the different tenants. Some of us saw it yesterday, some of us will have it tomorrow... most should be live today!

For Report Server there is even a longer delay and it may take up to 2 additional weeks for you to see the update. There is nothing that has to be installed, RS will check for and pull the most recent version.

It is not clear to me how this is done from the Report Server since  we have our own instalation of RS?

How do I configure our RS to download the new versions of PowerBI Desktop

Can you give me any further information?

@GustavoDrets There's nothing to do, it will automatically do it as long as your environment has internet connectivity. The update due out on the 9th was delayed on the Microsoft side and it will be in production next week at the latest.

For report server, it does take an additional 2 weeks or so to flow down. Again, nothing you need to do as its is dependent on when Microsoft makes it available to RS users.

From my understanding, we cannot include interactive linear features (poly lines) in the map. Instead, appears we are limited to points and polygons.

When will polylines be available? We want to be able to display custom, private polyline features in our reports for analysis.

@EricPhillips3 Lines are supported now as well. The must be a hosted Feature Layer within ArcGIS Online where you can manage your spatial data, then they are pulled into Power BI via the ArcGIS Power Automate connector.  If you have any technical questions, please feel free to DM me and I will follow up.

@MarkWestergaard

It is slowly rolling out beyond the expected release date of Feb 9th. I'm seeing it today in my Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service. I would expect it to be there by the end of day tomorrow.

Hi, I'm from italy I'm using ArcGis Map with some custom symbology with the Color parameter in the field pane. Still today (17/02/2022) it randomly reset to default symbology and doesn't revert back. Is the Updated versione of the map up yet? do I have to update someting manually?

Thanks,

Nicola

The new version popped up today Version: 2.102.683.0 64-bit (February 2022) but my existing arcGis visualizations are now broken and when I try to add them again, the 'Connect to ArcGIS' button doesn't seem to work. Yesterday that would take me to my companies login page. Is this just me?

@GMarkHall Try clearing the cache and everything should work as expected.

I am still unable to login to ArcGIS Enterprise with 2022.1.98 and PBI 2.102.683.0 with Infrastructure Update preview selected. I can login to ArcGIS Online, though. I did try clearing PBI cache.

Hi @MarkWestergaard and @Anonymous User Thanks for the tip but clearing the cache didn't help. I am using the desktop Power BI to set up my project. Everything worked fine before the upgrade but now the ArcGIS visual just has text..

"ArcGIS for Power BI - Access to this content requires permission to ArcGIS Enterprise instance at XXXXXXX, Please sign in below"

However there is nothing below.

If I delete the visual and add it again then the 'sign in' option is greyed out, even after I add the appropriate URL.

@MarkWestergaard thanks again for looking at this. I turned the 'Power BI desktop infrastructure update' preview feature off as suggested and deleted the cache & CEF again. My map was still in the same state with no option to log in. I then removed it and added a new map visual. At this point the login was still not working properly (button to sign in is inactive) but by adding an attribute to the join field I could log in and set my map up again. It seemed to take a couple of attempts before I could see my own layers to add to the map but I got there in the end. Thanks for the help.

@GMarkHall If you continue to see this, please start a new thread on it and we'll look there. It may be helpful to also have a support case logged, so we can track issues there.
