New feature

Add features to ArcGIS layer workflow:

  1. Sign into ArcGIS for Excel
  2. Select Add layer
  3. Select ArcGIS
  4. Add a feature layer, the attribute table will be added to a sheet in your workbook

You may add a new row in the last row of the table. Please note that the new Add features to ArcGIS layer pop-up window will appear.

Here, you will insert XY coordinates. Please note that the row and Spatial reference are automatically detected and are uneditable fields. If you’d like to undo edits, simply close the Add features to ArcGIS layer pop-up.

A few important mentions:

  • Polyline and polygons are not supported
  • Editing must be enabled on the feature layer
  • To see the results of the added row, log into your ArcGIS organizational account. Select content > select the feature layer > select Data > select table

Sync with ArcGIS:

If a new row/feature was added but would like to remove the feature from the map, you may Sync with ArcGIS under the Map Data tab to return the map to its original state. The point feature is removed in the example below and the map is refreshed.

Custom symbology Workflow:

  1. Select Style option
  2. Select Shape
  3. Select uploaded symbols
  4. Drag and drop files from the desired file path

Once the symbols are uploaded you can adjust the size and rotation. You can also use the Adjust size automatically check box to adjust the size.

Hot topic

Note: Topic taken from our Esri Community web pages.

Regarding the most recent ArcGIS Online user type updates, this was a concern voiced on our Esri Community forum and recorded as BUG-00017046, the attribute table cannot be accessed when the user's member role is not at least a Publisher. After further research, I can conclude this is not an issue with the user type updates but enabled editing must be allowed on the feature layer being accessed. The user type at minimum needs to be Creator or Professional with a Facilitator or admin role or have custom privileges.

Note: Contributor and Professional user types were previously Editor and GIS Professional.

Till next time
