Show only last location for each bird

Hi Field Mappers,

We are doing some kiwi bird monitoring. Every time we go out into the field we make a new point for where the 10 birds are that we are monitoring. At our desk we want to see in the dashboard all the points created over time. In the field however we only want the volunteers to see the last recorded location for each bird (rather than clutter the map with all the points).

Is there a way to do this in Field Maps that will also work offline?

I was hoping it would be as simple as creating a view layer and then filtering bird uniqueID and lastcreateddate or something like that, but now think it might not be as simple as that.

At first we will be monitoring on the daily then gradually move to fortnightly and monthly so running an overnight process of grabbing the latest created date and unique bird id then writing that into a separate layer isn't ideal, but doable. Looking for an easier option.

Something to consider is we might not hear/see/pick up sign of the bird for a few days or a week even so filtering to last 24 hours in the filter section wouldn't work. It will vary for each bird.

Each bird has a unique ID and will have the created_date field auto-populated.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I haven't tried it myself, but found my way there from another recent post on these forums.

@NicoleJohnson @elpinguino  Yes, it can be done with a view layer.  I was going to reference that same post that you posted Nicole.

@NicoleJohnson @MarkBockenhauer Awesome! I will give it a go with some test data. Thanks also Mark for those extra tips you've put in the comments.

Can confirm this work. Tested online in Map Viewer.
