Hi,

I was hoping if someone has come across this issue before.
We have a map that contains a feature layer {point feature layer and related table (non-spatial) }

I can access the map fine but when I try to download and offline area it fails.

After that I thought, is something wrong in layer1 (related table). So I exported the feature layer as FGDB and reuploaded it to AGOL and created a TEST Map. Now this worked perfectly fine when I tried to download the offline area.

I compared the schema of the original feature layer and the TEST feature layer. I found some of the names had been truncated to 31 characters. Could this be the problem?

The next obvious step was to try and break the TEST layer. So created a new field with name of more than 31 characters. Then I tried downloading an offline area, the result was a fail with the same error.
Removed the troublesome field and I am able to download offline areas on my phone/iPAD.

Has anyone else experienced this?

If the length of the fieldnames is the issue -should this be logged as a bug?

Also can I change field names on the feature layer(AGOL)? I am sure the answer is no but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Sahil

**EDIT**

A few other tests have confirmed this. It is the field length that causes the issue.
There is no limit (max 31 characters)  in AGOL when you create a new field but when you try and download an offline area/replica then possibly that limit kicks in and the process fails.

There's no indication that your issue is related to this post. Field names appear to be under 30 characters and there are other potential causes.

I'd suggest making a new post where you'll get fresh visibility. Include an error message or the symbology method etc.

Hi @23Starbuck , I am having the same issues.

For context, I have 3 projects for different field sites that I am working on that are saved with the same field names in the layers (copied from existing layer when setting up as I am collecting the same data at each site) and just the layer titles are changed to the relevant site names. There are approximately 20 layers in each project. Oddly, I can download map areas for 2 of the projects in the Field Maps App onto my device which works perfectly offline, but cannot do this for 1 of the projects. I find this strange because they all have the same layers with the same field names. They do have long-ish field names though (I wasn't aware of this issue when setting up the layers).

However, I have also just noticed that in Manage Offline Areas on AGOL, creating an offline area fails on all 3 projects.

Above you mentioned "I had to go through each layer one by one taking them offline individually until I found the layer that was failing". Perhaps this is something I could try but how do I do this?

TIA!

Sarah

Hi,

I'd suggest creating a new post as recent unanswered questions get more attention and your issue sounds to be unrelated to the error message provided in this one.

The error message in ArcGIS online for offline maps has no detail. What you can do is try in field maps (with logging enabled). Or when you're generating the offline area in ArcGIS online follow the network traffic using the steps here:

https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-online-questions/offline-map-area-recreation-issues/m-p/1214106...

In your post please share any logs or details from the above.

Hope this helps get you started.

Cheers

Chris
