Hello all happy Monday 🙂

  • So i own a web map on AGOL which has  a bunch of layers.
  • The map is being used in a Field Maps form
  • The web map itself is not shared with the organization, but the map and its layers are shared with a group in which the members have the ability to "contribute content".
  • However, the map is not showing under Field Map Designer to one of my team members.
  • Is this an AGOL account privileges issue or do i need to make my team member the owner of the web map so that they can see and edit the map under Field Maps Designer?

Contribute content means they can share things to the group.

You want the Shared Update capability if you want members of the group to make changes to the content shared with the group.

https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/share-maps/create-groups.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_12B3CD7ADAF843DB9...

However:

  • Not all apps or workflows are supported with this (unclear on forms)
  • This permission cannot be disabled
  • I would recommend this sharing method in addition to any other sharing methods for user workflows i.e. this group is for GIS pros only, not the standard sharing.

It's likely that they are all accessing the map ok but invoking Admin privileges to update the map. The one user who can't isn't an admin or Creator level

yup turning on Shared Updates and changing AGOL account previligies to Admin solves the issue

admin privileges and shared update capability are separate mechanisms to give permissions to update content owned by other users. Maps and app updates supporting shared update shouldn't need admin privileges

I hear you 🙂 but for some reason my role was that of a "Publisher" only so the Shared Update option wasn't appearing on my end I guess so the admin had to elevate my role and the option showed when I created a new report.
