Enable Multi-User Offline Sync in Field Maps Without Replica Ownership Conflicts

Field Maps offline editing workflows within ArcGIS Online are currently limited by replica ownership constraints. When multiple users work offline concurrently from a shared web map while editing hosted feature layers, only the map owner can successfully sync edits. This results in persistent “Service error code 400: Unable to synchronize replica” errors for all other users who attempt to use either managed offline areas or their own map areas created in the app, even with users having the appropriate user roles to properly edit this data and data being shared correctly with other users.

We have a similar web map setup in our ArcGIS Enterprise environment with layers referenced from a registered SQL SDE data store, yet this works fine as the replica rules are different in this environment which allows offline multi-user editing.

We also cannot transfer map ownership before fieldwork due to admin overhead and concurrent multi-user operations. Shared Update Groups do not resolve this issue and prevent the use of managed offline areas.

We urgently need support for:

  • Shared replica ownership or decoupling replica from map ownership.
  • Multi-user offline sync from a single shared web map.
  • Managed offline areas within Shared Update Groups.

Status changed to: Needs Clarification

@MJhendo , sorry to hear that you are running into problems.

Just like with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online supports having a single web map that is shared and used by many mobile users at the same time.  This works both offline and while connected.  Mobile users do not have to own the web map to be able to take data offline, edit and sync.

>all other users who attempt to use either managed offline areas or their own map areas created in the app, even with users having the appropriate user roles to properly edit this data and data being shared correctly with other users.

Are these users able to edit the data while connected, in Field Maps and or the Map Viewer?

I would suggest reaching out to Esri Support if you have not done so already.
