I'm developing a field mapping solution using field maps for my company, and one of the things that represents our data (and I feel like most AEC type data) is the use of lines and polygons. My mapping efforts would be much more efficient if I didn't have to drag the crosshair to add vertices to line and polygon features, but could just press where I want to add vertices.

I haven't been able to find a mobile app that supports that functionality, and while having the starting vertex and streaming functions are nice, they are also very susceptible to GPS error and can make unnecessary vertices in the linework.

Having the ability to just draw the lines and areas like you can with the sketch functionality, then collect data on the feature in the field would improve my company's efficiency by multitudes, and I think many other users could find use in this feature as well.

Yes, I agree. Freehand drawing, with or without a stylus, would greatly improve the efficiency of using Field Maps for geologic mapping. I know that the geologic mapping community would find this functionality immensely useful.

Esri essentially went backwards in this functionality between the Collector Classic and Collector.

Yes, there is the markup tool, but the way those data are stored are not what we are after. We would like to see the markup tool's drawing functionality, but applicable to a line or polygon feature service.

There are other threads that cover this topic.
