Time-animations

I have a time animation for ice cover. It is stored in i file based geodatabase. In Arc Map I can use the time-tool and get an animation. But in AG explorer, it seems that I have to export the database to KML, then I can show a time animation.
I find this a bit strange - AG explorer is an ESRI-product, but it does not support functionality in its own, native file format?
There is no problem to create a pythonskript that automaticly creates a KML-file, but it generates one more step, one more file, more to organize and more to store! Do ESRI have any plans to support time in its own formats as well?

I was having the same problem awhile back. I hope ESRI responds.

The current ArcGIS Explorer Desktop display system does not display Layer animations very well, so we have not enabled it.
