The select widget is powerful. Although I think it can be improved for more intuitive use. Here are three possible improvements that focus on the intuitive user experience of the select widget.
1. Visual cue on displaying the buffer range.
A good example is the existing user experience within the 'near me' widget. The select tool does both offer an interactive select based (Point/circle/rectangle) and a buffer selection (km,m, etc) based on data. Although unlike the 'near me' widget the drawn shape/buffer range is not (permanently) drawn on the map. Leaving user's guessing if the spatial query came through or if their drawn shape was correct.
2. Selectable layers in accordance with is selecte within the layer widget
We work with experiences that have many layers. In multiple user tests I have seen it happen that people struggle to understand why the select tool selects all layers while they only have select a few from within the layer widget. I would like that we can config the behavior of the select tool to work in accordance with whatever is open on the select widget. (like also described here )
3. Actions to the select widget
The 'near me' widget can be linked/fired up with the 'more actions' button whenever the right feature is selected on the map. I would like to see the same for the select widget to run a spatial seletion based on data.
