Should I install a web adaptor for GeoEvent on the GeoEvent Server machine or with other web adaptors?

I have two machines. Both have access to the internet.

A) Base deployment machine. It has installed on it,
the Portal, Server, Data Store, Server Web Adaptor and the Portal Web Adaptor
It also has a public IP.

B) GeoEvent Machine. It has,
GeoEvent Server

It only has a internal IP address.

The GeoEvent Server needs to have its own 'GeoEvent Web Adaptor' inroder to federate the GeoEvent Machine with the base deployment machine. See below federation dialog requiring a web adaptor URL.

Where should the 'GeoEvent Web Adaptor' be installed? On A or B?

Will the 'GeoEvent Web Adaptor' be used for any communication?

As I understand GeoEvent Server, one can be directly send inputs to geoevent using '<geoevent domain/ip>:<port>' for certain input connectors and the only use of a geoevent web adaptor is for federation with a base deployment.

Hi Thomas Mathew‌,

Good question. There are several levels to this answer, but at the most basic, it really does not matter what machine you install the Web Adaptor to be used for the GeoEvent Server on. As long as the Server B is able to communicate with Server A, then the web adaptor can be installed on either/or.

You are correct. In regards to GeoEvent, a Web Adaptor is only relevant for federating the Server with Portal. Technically, it will still work if you just use the FQDN:port URL, but that is assuming they are on the same network. It is really up to you as to whether you want to use the Web Adaptor. All internal processes and communication go through 6143. Again, the WA will only be a consideration for when you want to federate with Portal and you need to go through the internet to do so.

Hope this helps.
