Hi,

Two days after a successful install of AGS 10.1 on a new server running Windows Server 2008 R2, I'm getting the simple error: "Packaging failed" for each new service I try to publish.  Any thoughts what might be causing this?

I've successfully published several services prior to today.

thanks,

Greg

After working with tech support, I found that the error was caused by the AGS Account not having full control over the D:\arcgisserver folder.  The problem is now solved.

Greg,

I find it odd that so many of us could be publishing services, then mysteriously the permissions change so that you cannot publish anymore.  I think that there is more to it than that.

Did you get an answer to this in the end? Ive checked the folder security etc.

Thank you

We fixed this issue by rolling back to the previous image that we took on the server.  It seems like something got corrupted.  My suggestion is to take images of the server often.

If the packaging failed, it's best to check the GP Results windows for additional information about the error. If error lead you to believe that Desktop cannot connect to the server, try running Fiddler to see if you can find the failed request to the GIS Server.

On the server side, you need to make sure the Publishing Service is running. It's also good to test your publishing as the Primary Site Administrator to make sure it's not a security configuration issue.

If anyone in the thread reporting these problems is experiencing them today, please contact Esri Support so an analyst can help diagnose what the problem is.

Thank you,
Andrew

I??m experiencing the same problem with no significant solution.

I do agree with Chris, how come we are able to publish and after short time we are not! This problem is recognized by multiple users and should have sort of robust solution.

I??m not sure if experts (Esri Support analysts) could share some of the issues that cause the ??packaging failed? problem

Thanks

Best

I am taking the "ArcGIS for Server: Sharing GIS Content on the Web" course as we speak.

We found a solution to the problem;

Restart or Stop/Start the ArcGIS server connection.

In Windows:

Right-click My Computer.

Click Manage.

Expand Services and Applications tab.

Click Services.

Find "ArcGIS Server".

Stop it, wait a few seconds and start it again.

Now you should be able to publish your service.

I have to say that the message "Packaging failed" was abit misleading tho.
