Hello Community,

We have created a backup of ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 using the webgisdr utility tool. The backup was created successfully with creation of webgissite file and is stored on a local drive (C drive) of the ArcGIS Server machine.

We would now like to move this backup file to a different machine so that we can move forward with restore process. We would like to know if this is possible as simply copying pasting the backup file has not worked.

Are we missing something or this is something that is not possible.

Hi Wizgis,

The backup will need to be restored to the same version of ArcGIS Enterprise.

You will have to create an Import version of your Properties file to be picked up by the restoration:

https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/restore-web-gis.htm

The backup file can be on any disk as long as the Properties file is pointing to the location where the backup exists.

Hi @A_Wyn_Jones

Thank you for your insights and for sharing the documentation.

We have made sure that the new machines on which ArcGIS Enterprise is installed is of the same version.

In our case, the new machines on which ArcGIS Enterprise is installed are on a separate network from those from which the backup was created.

Hence, I was wondering if the backup file could be moved; otherwise, how can the import version of the properties file look for backup file.

Once the webgisdr process has completed successfully, the .webgissite file can freely be moved anywhere. If your new system is on a different network / subnet, that could be part of why it's not copying, but there's nothing from the ArcGIS Enterprise side that stops the file from being moved.
