How to automatically assign an ArcGIS Pro Named User license to a new user in ArcGIS Enterprise

Hi all,

We recently configured our ArcGIS Enterprise environment to use Named User licenses for ArcGIS Pro.

We are wondering how to automatically assign a named user license to some users who connect to the Portal for the first time. These users will normally be in a specific AD group and configured as Creator/Editor in the Portal so that they can be assigned an ArcGIS Pro license.

I know it is possible to add new members inside Portal for ArcGIS using an AD group and assign specific license for the Portal and ArcGIS Pro in the process. But it is a one shot, or to be repeated each time new users are added to the AD group.

What we are looking for is a method to automatically assign Portal and ArcGIS Pro licenses when a new user is added to the AD group.

Maybe using ArcGIS Enterprise REST API?

Has anyone ever done anything like this?

Regards,

Hervé

Hi David,

Thanks for the suggestion.

We are using ArcGIS Pro 2.9.8 and ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1. In fact, the default members are configured as Viewer\Viewer. So that they can access custom maps and applications from the Portal.

But for some specific users, we would like to automatically (without using the Portal user interface) assign the Creator\Editor role with a named user license for ArcGIS Pro. These users will be added to a specific AD group. We are looking to find a way to bypass the default member configuration for those users each time a new user is added to the AD group and get access to the Portal.

Regards,

Hervé

Hi @HervéW

Unless the user type is a GIS professional which has as ArcGIS Pro license built in I do not believe it would be possible to automatically assign an add-on Pro license to a new user

Hope this answers your query
