ArcGIS Pro - Failed to add data from a WFS

I'm trying to add a feature layer to ArcGIS Pro 2.5 from the following WFS https://hazards.fema.gov/gis/nfhl/services/public/NFHL/MapServer/WFSServer. I am able to add the server to the server folder in ArcGIS Pro catalog but when I try to add a layer to the map I get the following error message "Failed to add data". I thought that I should be able to a layer to Pro from the WFS. I was wondering if this is an issue with Pro or the WFS?

Thanks,

Vince

I tried the WFS (and WMS) both within ArcGIS Pro and ArcCatalog and got errors just like you did. Not sure that it is an ArcGIS or NFHL data side issue.

Update: I tried the following URL; http://ndgishub.nd.gov/arcgis/services/Features/GovtLands_Federal/MapServer/WFSServer

another example: http://services.azgs.az.gov/ArcGIS/services/aasggeothermal/ORThermalSprings/MapServer/WFSServer

and it worked as expected. My guess is that there may be an issue on the NFHL hosting side. You may want to reach out to the MIP help desk: NOPAGETAB_NFHLWMS

If you have any questions or concerns please contact MIP Help (miphelp@riskmapcds.com ) or the FEMA Map Information eXchange (FMIX) at 1-877-FEMA-MAP

Hi Vince Legendre,

I tried to access this WFS service in the ArcGIS Online Map Viewer and I managed to add the layer Alluvial_Fans - see screen captures attached.

So, in the Map Viewer the Alluvial_Fans are visible, but trying to add them as a layer in ArcGIS Pro 2.5 I get this error message: Failed to add data. Bad address. Verify the server is running. So, my error message is longer than yours! :-):-):-):-)

So, I guess it is up to you to choose who to blame, the WFS service or ArcGIS Pro 2.5. I tend to opt for the latter...

HTH,

Egge-Jan

The reason Pro isn't able to draw features from the service is because the service is configured incorrectly. If you look at the service's capabilities response the urls describing GetCapabilities, DescribeFeatureType, etc point to unsecured (http) urls and the server rejects any connections made using these urls. The service owner will need to update these to https. Once done these layers will draw in ArcGIS Pro.ArcGISPro v2.4.0

Hello,

Indeed, this webservice is returning 502 Error: ConnectionRefused (0x274d) when requesting HTTP url.

I face the same issue with a web service from French IGN:

https://wxs-gpu.mongeoportail.ign.fr/externe/39wtxmgtn23okfbbs1al2lz3/wfs

But on their server they return a HTTP 301 Moved Permanently to https.

To me, ArcGIS Pro should follow HTTP redirection, shouldn't it ?

Thanks

I had the same "Fail to add data" error in ArcGIS Pro 2.5.

The WFS is from a Geoserver which I had setup. I have configured https but still getting the same error.

WFS

https://geoserver.smarterdbyd.com/geoserver/topp/ows?

This is the WMS

https://geoserver.smarterdbyd.com/geoserver/topp/wms?

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot as the error is too generic.

I figured out the issue. The issue is due to the incorrect https configuration in the load balancer. I am able to load the WFS now that I have updated the domain.
