Why does the Portal for ArcGIS license expired when the ArcGIS Enterprise license is perpetual?

Hello GeoNet,

I had an error message on my Portal page saying that "The Portal for ArcGIS licenses may be expired."

It was expired when I checked the keycodes file at C:\Program Files\ESRI\License10.6\sysgen

But why would it have a expiration date when the license says perpetual under My Esri account?

The problem is fixed after putting a new authorization code at the Portal for ArcGIS Level 2.

Does it mean I need to re-generate the code and re-authorize it every year even though the ArcGIS Enterprise license says perpetual?

Thank you,

Emily

Hi Hilary,

Thank you for your reply.  Yes, I called them and they were able to help me to generate a new code to put in. But I still don't understand why I need to do that and does it mean I'd need to do that every year?

Thanks again,

Emily
