We want to add a WMTS service (https://sgx.geodatenzentrum.de/wmts_basemapde) within Map Viewer. We are currently working with Portal 10.9.1.

We have added https://sgx.geodatenzentrum.de as trusted server. And we can add the WMTS as content. But using the same WMTS url in Map Viewer brings up a service error "The layer cannot be added to the map."  The same WMTS url used with  Portal 11.0 Map Viewer works also fine.

Whats wrong here?

This is still a problem 2 years later. The new update says it should work, but it does not.

Hi @ericsamson_tract which product and version are you using? (e.g. ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS?)

And are you having trouble with all WMTS services or just a specific one?

@ericsamson_tract @PeterHodkinson I've Just checked this with the OS maps API - still doesn't work 2 years later, I hope this is resolved before they retire map viewer classic.

Hi @SamJakson I'm sorry you're still having trouble with the OS Maps API in Map Viewer. I've just tested this in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer myself without issue so I'm hopeful it should be possible to get it working for you with a bit of troubleshooting.

  • Assuming you're using ArcGIS Online, please make sure that you don't have the OS domain added to your list of Trusted Servers (Organization > Security > Trusted servers). This can cause your browser to block the CORS requests to the service.
  • When adding the layer in Map Viewer be sure to use the Custom parameters functionality to specify your API key

I hope this helps!

If anyone is still having issues with this post 10.9.1 Enterprise version, verify in portal admin (home > security > config) that the URL site is included under "allowedProxyHosts". That is typically what will allow incoming traffic of OGC services from external sites.
