Hi Mira,

When you do federation with portal the following needs to be done and you need to be aware

  1. ArcGIS server should be secured for federation
  2. once you federare the Security with ArcGIS server . the AGS security will be no longer exisits and you will be using the portal secuirty. so if you have secure services with AGS you will need to use the group availabe
  3. You will be able to use exisiting arcgis services as a registered service , but publishing new service you will have two options to register your existing database or to be used as  the hosting service or datastore should be installed and register as hosted from portal for arcgis.
  4. the new published will be an item in the portal .

Hi Mira,

See the following link:

Federate an ArcGIS Server site with your portal—Portal for ArcGIS (10.4.1) | ArcGIS for Server

The REST URL to your services will remain the same.  The security of your ArcGIS Server services is now handled by Portal for ArcGIS, so you may need to update the sharing of these services with particular Groups or with 'Everyone'.
