Picture Marker Symbol won't tolerate curves

Hello! The attached shows a Picture Marker symbol, created in Illustrator and converted to emf, used to symbolize a point layer. As you can see, the curved portion of the symbol looks crummy. Any ideas how I can fix this? Thank you!

I caught a similar post in Ask A Cartographer; the trick is to make the Illustrator file ENORMOUS and export as emf.  That did the trick!
