Offset point symbol from actual coordinates

I am working on a .mxd file from a previous year which records observations along a river.  Having the observations has point causes it to become too clustered to understand, and so whoever originally made the document used leading lines to show the actual position of the observation, with a point symbol at the end to categorize it.  The point itself, though, hasn't actually changed, it's just as though the symbol was offset from the actual point coordinates.  I am trying to add another set of observations for the latest survey, but I don't understand how the previous author did this.  To select the point, you actually have to click off the symbol, where the actual coordinates of the point are.  I'm combed the help page for symbol offsets and cannot find anything.

I have attached a picture of what I'm talking about.

Nevermind, I think I've figured it out.  Each point was uniquely symbolized, and the offset was changed by going to:

Symbol Selector > Edit Symbol > Symbol Offset
