I keep getting logged out of Enterprise

We recently got Enterprise at work, so I'm very new to this but I'm sure what's been happening isn't normal. In short, I'm having trouble adding data to a table I added to our portal. I was able to create a new field, but when I try to use the field calculator to populate that field, one of two things happens. Either it runs forever with no results, or I'm booted from our portal and have to sign in again.

Any explanations as to why this is happening, and suggestions on how to move forward are greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I don't know what version of Enterprise we have.
