Portal Sites Gallery Element items lead to an overview page instead of the actual item in Enterprise 10.8.1

There has been a change in how the Gallery element in Portal sites behave from Enterprise 10.7.1 to 10.8.1. The behaviour in 10.7.1 was that any item - apps, sites etc. - added to a gallery element would lead directly to that item. However, in 10.8.1, the gallery element led to an intermediate overview page instead of the actual item.
This is especially a deterrent when using the gallery element to link one site to other subsites in an organisational hierarchy. The user would be led to an overview page and then be able to open the actual site, which does not seem necessary.
The proposed idea is to bring the gallery element to interact as it did back in 10.7.1 OR have an option within the gallery element to be able to turn the overview page on and off.
