The headlines in the next edition of ArcNews should read, "ESRI to offer Rewards program for bug finders."

While I believe ESRI offers a great product and has an incredibly dedicated tech support staff, as their software has become more and more complex, it seems to be getting more and more buggy.  End users have limited alternatives to ESRI.  GIS software competition is scarce.

To appease frustrated end users who frequently encounter/report bugs (5 for me in the last 12 months - others, no doubt, have many more), join me in encouraging ESRI to offer a rewards program to users who find a problem with ESRI software and the resolution to those problems is the logging of a bug by ESRI tech support.

The rewards program for when a bug is found would work something like this:

  • The reward recipient’s organization earns a 10% refund on their current year’s annual maintenance fee for every bug that is reported by end users in that organization.
  • If the bug is unresolved when the reward recipient’s next annual maintenance contract is due, the discount remains in place until the bug is resolved.
  • In the unlikely event that the reward recipient finds more than 10 bugs during their annual maintenance year, they then begin to earn free access to software licenses they currently do not have.  Access to this free software is good for one full year.

United in purpose, strengthened by our convictions, and guided by a singular vision, together we can work toward the eradication of ESRI software bugs.  Click the thumbs up icon now to support this idea.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for the time you took to express your views, @PLadd.

After careful review, we have determined that your submission does not align with the guidelines for posting ideas on this platform.

Our ArcGIS Ideas Exchange is designed to gather specific suggestions for new or improved features directly related to Esri products. The Ideas Exchange is not the appropriate venue for general feedback or program suggestions, which should be directed to other Esri feedback channels, such as Customer Support or Esri’s regularly run surveys that our teams carefully review. Understanding that you have specific concerns regarding your experience with product bugs, we encourage you to also have a conversation directly with your Esri Account Manager if that is not already ongoing.

Given these factors, this idea has been closed to voting and comments. The post will be removed in one week's time to maintain the focus and utility of the Ideas Exchange. We encourage you to review the guidelines and consider redirecting your concerns through the appropriate channels, where they will be addressed more effectively.
