When selecting the notebook tab from ArcGIS Portal a new notebook item is created every time. A better approach would be to allow to the user to select an existing notebook to which they have access or create a new notebook. This enhancement would eliminate lots of duplicate notebook items in user content. The user would also be able to more easily access of their notebooks from anywhere in Enterprise.

Hi Weston,

We have taken your and other user's (https://community.esri.com/message/883102-notebooks-autosave)

feedback on the same and updated the behavior when opening a new notebook using the Notebook link in the top banner. A new untitled notebook item will not be automatically created each time a new notebook is opened. Now a notebook item will be created only when the user explicitly saves the notebook and thus, would keep the Content clean. This is included with Notebooks in ArcGIS Online and with the upcoming 10.8.1 release of ArcGIS Enterprise.

As far as creating a notebook from an existing notebook, this is already supported. You can open an existing notebook and save-as a new notebook item.

Thanks!

At least this portion of the Idea has not been implemented and would be a significant improvement:
"A better approach would be to allow to the user to select an existing notebook to which they have access or create a new notebook."
