As a prerequisite, you need to install Service Pack 1 of Windows 7 before installing ArcGIS Desktop.

Install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Down...

After installing SP1 for Windows 7 (Restart the system if required), you could install ArcGIS Desktop.

Thank you so much for your information. But is it not formatting my PC and losing all applications?

Kind regards,Zeleke

No. It is just a patch, not an OS version. So, it won't format your machine. You can go ahead with the installation of SP1 for Windows 7.

All applications will remain intact.

It would be better if you could write a separate question for this issue. It would be helpful for the people with similar issue (to find the thread) in future.
