I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5 and find the text sizes all over the place, especially in the table of contents. I did not uninstall 10.4 before installing 10.5. Could that be the reason? The top toolbar also has very large text compared to the old 10.4. This is very disconcerting.
check your operating system font scaling, you might have it set too high
From your desktop, right-click and select Display Properties,,, check in there

I forgot to say, it also corrected the overly sensitive drop downs for the top row of selections. ???? But it worked.

The issue could have been caused due to the current Windows theme. Try changing the Windows theme to Basic.
