Allows Actions off data not set in widget

I have a dashboard showing Alarms. 
There is a serial chart that I want to have filter a list widget. 
The serial chart shows a grouped category by a severity field and split by a description field. 
I have a separate List widget with all the details of these Alarms. 
I need to link the action by the Alarm ID field, but the only options available for the Source Field is the 2 fields in the Widget and I am unable to change these.

It looks like the dashboard currently only allows actions to be triggered from fields present in the source widget. In this case, being able to link the serial chart to the list widget by Alarm ID—despite it not being displayed—would make filtering much more flexible. Adding the option to use fields not shown in the widget would solve this issue.
