Allow field-based filtering within a single data source

When I have a List, I often want it to filter some other widget based on an attribute.

I happen to have a situation in which I want to filter another list pointing to the same dataset. Specifically, it's my parcels layer, in which I have a created_record and retired_record field in each feature. I'd like to pick something out of the "parent parcels" list and filter the "child parcels" list based on those two fields.

However, when attempting to filter another widget with the same dataset, I am only presented with the option of feature-to-feature filtering. I don't want to create another layer just to use the attribute-based filter. Can I still have that option?
