In ArcGIS Dashboards, the details element and any pop-ups in the map element are based on how your pop-up is configured in Map Viewer. Depending on the display settings of attachments in your pop-up, your attachments may display as a list (attachments show as links) or as a gallery (the whole attachment is displayed).

New maps authored in Map Viewer and stand-alone layers are set to Auto by default. Auto allows the app to choose the best experience for the attachment. For Dashboards, this means that your attachments will display as if they were in Gallery mode.

If your attachments are not displaying correctly on your dashboard, verify that they are set up correctly. Open your map in Map Viewer and in the pop-ups pane, check that attachments are set to display as Auto or Gallery

If you are in an ArcGIS Enterprise environment, depending on the version you are using, you may be restricted in how your attachments display.

Server-based layers and hosted feature layers from previous versions of ArcGIS Enterprise (10.9 and earlier) can only display attachments as a list. This means that on your dashboard, your attachments will always display as links. When you open your layer in Map Viewer, you will see the following message.

Starting at ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1, hosted feature layers can display attachments as a list or a gallery.

As you begin to upgrade your dashboards from ArcGIS Dashboards Classic to ArcGIS Dashboards, take the time to verify your pop-ups and ensure they are displaying as expected.

If your dashboards were last updated in ArcGIS Dashboards Classic, we also strongly recommend you check them and their data sources before upgrading. The team has done a lot of testing to ensure that dashboards upgrade smoothly, however, since upgrading a dashboard is permanent, taking the time to verify functionality is important. We recommend always doing the following:

  1. In Map Viewer (not Map Viewer Classic), open your dashboard’s web maps and standalone layers.
  2. Ensure that everything displays correctly and make sure that all layers that are used in your dashboard are visible.
  3. Save any changes you make.
  4. Open the dashboard for editing in ArcGIS Dashboards.
  5. Verify that your dashboard is working as expected.
  6. Save your dashboard.
