When working in the field it would be nice to have a scale bar on the Collector app.  When collecting points on open water, you may not have a visual reference of how zoomed in you are on the basemap.

Also, it would be extremely helpful to have a way to navigate with bearing and distance to a point, like ArcPad had

Yes, a replacement of the "freehand measure" tool that provided bearing and distance of a line drawn on map would be awesome

Botanical gardens face the same issue in that we work at a large scale and need to know the distance between objects, especially plants.  Having dynamic scale bar would be a significant benefit in helping our staff orient themselves while in the field. I recognize that the scale may be intuitive for users who are working at the "street scale", but working at a "plant scale" requires more detail and a scale bar would be helpful.

I agree, and I've posted this idea  (https://community.esri.com/ideas/10710 ) as well as another person  (https://community.esri.com/ideas/10900 ) I think that ESRI should merge them all together.

scale bar?

Yes our field crews are asking for it also.

ESRI - What map does not have a scale bar shown?

Check out "What's new?—Collector for ArcGIS | ArcGIS" and "Quick reference—Collector for ArcGIS | ArcGIS" from Jan. 16/17, 2019.

Would have preferred numeric bearing instead of cardinal/inter-cardinal directions and options for picking distance units, but a very good improvement otherwise!
