Substituting a combobox in the Smart Editor Widget Panel

Hi,

   I am looking for some guidance on modifying the existing smart editor widget or if that's not possible, perhaps some advice on creating an editor widget/template for a feature layer.

    The smart editor does most f what I want it to, but I would like to add some comboboxes in replace of textboxes and add some predefined lists to those comboboxes.

     Any suggestions on these topics would be awesome.

I wasn't able to find any information on this topic. My thinking is that I am going to take a look at building a custom edit widget and see where that goes. If any one has completed this in the past and can offer some advice, it would be super cool. Thanks.
