How to download WAB app code

How does one download code of a WAB app to customize it and eventually host on my server? I see a way to download the non-WAB app "templates", but I can't find a way to download WAB app code.

Does one create and edit a WAB app online, and then download it for further customization using WAB Developer Edition which will soon be available (I assume)? I just started looking at WAB last week, and am rather clueless.

I saw this:

but I'm wondering if one can download code for an app created online that already has your service layers and widgets in there.

Download Released WAB? talking about how/when the Web Application Builder developers version will be available. That will be the version I believe you will want to use.

Barnaby,

Any work that you do online with the AGOL WAB version is going to be of limited use, as far as further CODE customization as all of the widgets and core WAB code will be minified. You can of course just grab all of the json files and paste those into your WAB Developer version App (after you create a new app). I would really hold tight until the WAB Developer version is available.
